"Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation." Psalm 42:5 ESV

Reflection

Like David, we won’t always feel strong. There will be moments when we feel sad, overwhelmed, or in emotional turmoil—but even then, we can choose to trust God and praise Him. The key is learning to turn our worries into worship. This begins with a shift in perspective: taking our eyes off our circumstances and fixing them on God’s unchanging character.

For me, this means relying on God’s providence and remembering His promises and past faithfulness—like when He saved me from a failed miscarriage, healed my dying mother, protected my preemie baby, or rescued my husband from a near-fatal event. When life throws curveballs, my question often becomes: God, You have never failed before—why would You fail now?

I also encourage myself with God’s Word—Romans 15:13, Isaiah 41:10, Philippians 4:6-7, to name a few. These verses remind me that true hope, joy, and peace come from God and are experienced through faith, not circumstances.

So when my soul feels troubled, I will speak to it-as David did:

"Hope in God, for I shall again praise Him."

God is my salvation—not just for eternity, but in every trial, every moment of despair. He rescues me again and again.

Prayer

Dear God,

When I feel weak or worried, help me turn my worry into worship. Shift my focus from my problems to You—faithful, loving, and always near.Remind me that You are my salvation here and now.Thank You for never leaving me.  You are the anchor my soul needs. I choose to trust You and praise You again and again. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Action Steps

  • Recall the last time you felt troubled. Did you respond with worry or worship?

  • The next time turmoil comes, set your hope in God. Praise Him again—He is your salvation.
