“The servant returned and told his master what they had said. His master was furious and said, ‘Go quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and invite the poor, the crippled, the blind, and the lame.’ After the servant had done this, he reported, ‘There is still room for more.’ So his master said, ‘Go out into the country lanes and behind the hedges and urge anyone you find to come, so that the house will be full. For none of those I first invited will get even the smallest taste of my banquet.’” (Luke 14:21-24 NLT)
In this passage, Jesus tells a parable about a great banquet where many of the first invited people turn it down. They made excuses: "I'm too busy, too distracted, simply not interested," and in the end, they refuse the invitation.
At first, I started wondering how anyone could refuse such an offer. But as I reflected, I realized this isn’t just their story. It’s mine too. I may not openly reject God, but I can do it in more subtle ways.
When I delay obedience, make excuses, or ignore His prompting, I respond in much the same way.
God’s invitation is not only about salvation. It is daily call to walk with Him in trust and obedience. The question is not whether I’ve received it, but rather how I’m responding right now.
I’m also reminded that the invitation doesn’t stop with me. God calls me to share it with others — those who feel overlooked, forgotten, or unworthy. Some will refuse, but my role is simply to be faithful.
There is still room at the table, and the invitation is still open. God continues to call and welcome those who will come.
And so I’m left asking: will I respond to God?
Prayer
Dear Lord, thank You for inviting me into a relationship with You and for Your unfailing grace. Forgive me when I delay, make excuses, or ignore Your voice. Give me a willing heart that obeys and follows You. Fill me with love for others. Help me keep sharing Your invitation, even when it is rejected, because it is worth it. Let my life reflect Your truth and love so clearly that others are drawn to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
